The Way Ahead

    1. Both committees are keen to progress formal twinning by their respective councils. The next steps will be to obtain the agreement of the full membership of each association, and to ask each council to resolve to enter into a twinning charter. Ploudalmezeau will arrange to meet with their Mayor. Both the current and incoming Porthcawl Mayors are up to speed with matters - both attended the BBQ yesterday and Elen was at the lunch today. Perhaps a formal letter to Porthcawl TC inviting it to resolve to twin? Porthcawl TTA’s AGM is on 28th May.
    2. The first formal twinning exchange visit should not take place until after a charter has been signed. This does not preclude, however, a visit by committee members to Ploudalmezeau.
    3. A long weekend from 5th to 9th September 2025 was identified as a possibility for a committee visit, accompanied by Porthcawl TC Mayor, for formal signing. This timescale would allow for all necessary preparatory steps to be completed. Availability of Elen ( incoming Mayor) to be checked when we see her tomorrow. Ploudalmezeau are confident that they have enough members to host.
    4. Discussion of possible links/activities.
      1. In the past  a group of badminton players from Porthcawl accompanied a visit to St Sebastien SL - might this work with Ploudalmezeau?
      2. Porthcawl’s ‘Sounds Familiar’ choir has talked about undertaking a tour. Perhaps to Brittany, to link with a twinning visit? A choir from Ploudalmezeau is singing in Newport, Pembs. in April 2026. Perhaps a joint concert in Porthcawl on their way to.from Newport?
      3. Cathryn to contact Gaelle at Porthcawl Comprehensive School re a link with the college in Ploudalmezeau. Link at the college needed for communication. Ploudalmezeau committee will speak to the college.
      4. Ploudalmezeau has a Breton language medium primary school. Possible link with a Welsh language medium school here?

    1. Porthcawl TTA now needs to increase membership and funds. Mary asked for some information about Ploudalmezeau which we can share with members and as part of our publicity. Treasurer to complete and submit funding request asap, and the committee needs to arrange fundraising events.
