PTTA Committee meeting minutes 6.00 pm Tuesday 11th February 2025 at 11 Fulmar Road, Porthcawl

Present: MEL, BL, EW, CH, JH

Apologies: RL, DB

Standing items

1. Chair’s welcome

2. Apologies

3. Minutes of last meeting and matters arising not covered elsewhere - none

4. Potential link with Ploudalmezeau

(a)   CH reported that Jeff Perren, Mayor, has prepared a letter to the Mayor of Ploudalmezeau, which she has checked. Jeff to sign it then it can be scanned and sent out. Given the delays, she had sent a holding e-mail to Roger.

(b)   CH reported that Pencoed are visiting their twin in early June and wonder whether we might be visiting Ploudalmezeau at the same time and could share a coach. Discussion of high cost for a coach to cross the channel, plus it may be too soon after the proposed visit by the Ploudalmezeau committee in April to go over, so no decision, though CH has broached the possibility with Ploudalmezeau and they would be happy to receive us. Minibus hire possible?

(c)   CH reported that Ploudalmezeau propose that their committee visits us over the Easter weekend. EW is away but the rest of those present are here. CH is to obtain clarification of numbers and exact dates. MEL and BL may be able to host, as can CH and JH. The Worthington’s have also confirmed that they can host, and ML mentioned that Frances would be willing, also Suzanne Jeffries.

(d)   Possible activities for the visit.

                    (i)        BBQ at 11 Fulmar Road, for members to meet the Ploudalmezeau committee

(ii)        Visit to Senedd (may be closed as Easter

(iii)        Prince of Wales ghost night - talk about the haunted property

(iv)        Castell Coch or Caerphilly castle

                   (v)        St Fagan’s

(vi)        Porthcawl museum, and/or lifeboat station

(vii)        Open top tour of Cardiff?

(e)   Ploudalmezeau Mayor is unlikely to visit with the committee in April, so charter signing would have to be on a subsequent meeting

5. AOB

(a)   Treasurer reported £1053.61 in current account, £855.21 in Business Reserve Account (plus c.£3 interest on the latter since the last statement so total funds c.£1900.

(b)   Fish and chip supper 19th February. JH sent out a reminder to all members, and we expect to have c.20 at present. Decision to invite past, current and next Mayors, plus general invitation to all town councillors. Raffle prizes needed - we’ll ask members attending.

(c)   Membership. DB unable to attend but had sent in an e-mail update.

                    (i)        Bunkers - not a good time to decide as John waiting to go into hospital

(ii)        Sheila Thomas - uncertain as may bring back memories of her father

(iii)        Lloyds - do not wish to continue

(iv)        Preece’s have paid their subs in cash - £10

                   (v)        Gaelle has paid £5 subs for her and £5 for Porthcawl Comprehensive School

(d)   Publicity - no response to the last item in Seaside News but perhaps another article when we have more to report. Jenny Worthington will plug us to the U3A French Group and CH mentioned a member of the eU3A German group who is a former member of PTTA and intends to return.

(e)   Need another meeting once we know the details for the April visit.
